in a remote village in Northern Vietnam. I snapped this picture north of the village Sapa Vietnam which is one of the poorest but most beautiful regions of Vietnam. This little girl who is probably no more than 5 years of age is carrying and caring for her young brother while her parents work in the rice fields. They came down from their hut to meet us because we brought a few small candies for them to eat. The girl and boy had never tasted candy before and they were delighted with the small candies we gave them. The trip was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. They had so little but treated every small gift as something amazing. While it seemed like I had so much compared to them, I realized when I was there that I had very little compared to them. They had learned to appreciate each other and their families as cherished possessions while I had been taught to cherish material things. It was a moment where I think we all had reason to envy each other. What an eye opening and life changing experience it was for me.
my workspace. this is my studio at my home. Obviously my two great passions are photography and music. In my home this is where I spend hours and hours and hours just messing around. Sometimes I feel like something magical comes out of this place. Other times, I can get very frustrated here. It just depends. Regardless it is a place I love to spend time in.
This is my brother in law - Pete. Pete and I were friends in high school in San Diego. We met when I was about 16 years old. He asked me many times if he could date my sister and I always said, "No". Then one day I told him if he took off his shirt in Biology class then I would let him ask my sister out. He did and the teacher went ballistic. It was a real demonstration to me of just how much he liked my sister. He got that date with my sister and 15 years later they got married. I could not be happier. He is a world class father and one of the best guys I know. I really love this guy and I am so happy that my sister married such a wonderful guy. Pete is one of my best friends and this guy would do anything for his family and the people he cares about. To top it off he is a Marine ( a true honest to God tough guy that would fight and die for this country). Hurrah Pete and everything he stands for.
